5 Natural Skin Care Tips for Autumn

Posted by Angela - Naturally Safe Cosmetics on 26th Mar 2018

So the beautiful (but often intensely hot) Summer has come and gone and Autumn has arrived, which means a change in your natural skin care routine should now take place in order for your skin to thrive in the cooler temperatures and less humid conditions.

With that thought in mind, here are 5 natural skin care tips to ensure your skin remains glowing in Autumn.

1. Understand how natural skin care changes from Summer to Autumn

In Summer, we focus on keeping our skin hydrated in the heat and also on protecting it from exposure so it doesn’t get damaged by the Sun's harmful rays. Autumn conditions bring with it:

  • temperature fluctuations - it tends to cool, however there are definitely still some sweltering days in the mix
  • stronger, colder winds, which we all know can really affect your skin!

This means our skin care routine has to be versatile in order to support and effectively nourish our skin. In Summer, we tend to use more thorough cleansers and scrubs, along with lighter moisturisers. Because we tend to sweat more, our skin feels dirtier and it’s natural to want to scrub more thoroughly and get that ‘squeaky clean’ feel.

However, when Autumn rolls around, we do need to change up our routine a little as we no longer need to be so intense – otherwise our skin will have a one-way ticket to being dry and rough. The best natural skin care products are gentler and responsive to the changing temperature.

2. Switch to a gentler cleanser for effective face care

In Summer, a thorough cleanser is important as you are constantly having to remove the sweat that builds up on those hot, humid days. However, in Autumn, this will be too harsh for your skin as the temperature cools, so a more gentle cleanser is required. Switching to a gentle and moisturising cleanser like the Acure Sensitive Facial Cleanser will hydrate your skin and still remove any build up that may be lingering.

3. Adopt a milder exfoliating routine

Like cleansing, we tend to rigorously exfoliate in Summer, again due to a higher build up of dirt from hot weather. Switching to a milder exfoliating routine, such as using a mask once a week, will help revitalise your skin after a harsh Summer, and is gentle enough for the changing Autumn conditions. Eco By Sonya Face Compost Mask is a new addition to our range and is ideal as it provides a deep cleanse with a gentle exfoliation that's boosted by hydrating ingredients like Aloe Vera Leaf Juice, Shea Butter and Coconut Oil.

4. Stock up on a soothing hand cream

It’s easy to forget about looking after our hands, when they are in fact one of our most exposed body parts to the elements. Our hands have to deal with constant exposure to the Sun and outdoors, without any sort of protection (unless you wear gloves all the time but then you wouldn’t get much done, would you?). The cooler temperatures and frequent winds can wreak havoc on our poor hands if they aren’t protected - but a lush natural hand cream is the perfect solution to keeping your hands supple and smooth.
