At Naturally Safe Cosmetics, we love lipstick! Even during those times when you’re going without face and eye makeup, a pop of colour on your lips can do wonders for your confidence and lift your spirits. And, when it comes to COVID, as far as we’re concerned, masks off means lippy on! Am I right, ladies?
In this article, I thought I’d share our top 5 favourite lipstick hacks because, as good as lipstick is, you can always ‘up the ante’ with a few tricks.

1. Make your lips appear plumper
One way to make your lips look bigger (if that's what you want) is to go slightly outside the edges of your lips when applying your lipstick. You can also do this by applying your lipliner outside the natural line of your lips before filling in with lipstick. The key word here is 'slightly' - don't go overboard!
2. Make your lipstick last longer
Improve the staying power of your lipstick by filling in the entire lip area with a neutral lipliner first and then applying your lipstick over the top. Alternatively, apply a light layer of your lipstick, gently blot with a tissue and then re-apply your lipstick again. This gives the lipstick a matte surface to adhere to, helping it to stay on your lips longer.
3. Create your own unique lipstick shade
Can’t find the perfect shade of lipstick for you? Or perhaps you just like experimenting with different colours? One of my favourite hacks is combining 2 (or more) shades of lipsticks, one on top of the other to create a totally custom shade. The possibilities are endless!
4. Increase lip hydration
If your lips have a tendency towards dryness, improve moisturisation by applying a natural lip balm first and then applying your favourite lipstick over the top. Your lips will be super-moist and luscious.
5. Add wow factor with extra gloss
Another favourite hack of mine is to apply a lip gloss over the top of my lipstick. A clear lip gloss will dramatically up the shine level of your lips, while a coloured lip gloss will add both shine and a unique hue to your lipstick. Your can apply the lip gloss over the entire lip area or just highlight the middle section of your lips.
