Some of the most popular skincare products on the market today are paw paw cream, paw paw ointment and paw paw balm.

What is Paw Paw cream?

Paw Paw cream - also known as papaya cream - is a natural remedy made from the fruit of the Paw Paw tree. Paw Paw skin care products are made from fermented Paw Paw ( Carica Papaya L) which contains an enzyme called Papain. This enzyme helps to break down dead skin cells and promote skin renewal.

How does Paw Paw ointment or cream help skin conditions?

Because Paw Paw is rich in vitamins and enzymes, Paw Paw cream can help soothe and heal dry, irritated skin. In fact, Paw Paw has been used for centuries to treat various skin conditions and is a popular choice for those looking for a natural alternative to traditional skin care products made from petroleum based ingredients.

Paw Paw also contains Vitamins A, C and E, which are essential for healthy skin. In addition to nourishing and protecting the skin, these vitamins also help reduce inflammation and promote healing. Paw Paw cream has natural moisturising properties that help to hydrate skin and prevent dryness and irritation.

Paw Paw is a delicious tropical fruit and its wonderful skin healing properties has made it a popular ingredient in skin treatments. Apart from moisturising dry or chapped lips, Paw Paw cream is also used to treat ailments like eczema, psoraisis, dermatitis, acne and warts. Paw Paw cream's anti-inflammatory properties help to reduce redness and swelling. Its antiseptic properties make it a useful home remedy to treat minor cuts and burns, as well as insect stings and bites as it promotes healing and reduces the risk of infection.

Not all Paw Paw creams are the same

There are lots of Paw Paw creams and balms for sale on supermarket and chemist shelves but, next time you're looking to buy one, remember - not all paw paw creams are created equal.

Many Paw Paw creams contain a very small amount of Paw Paw in a base that is mostly petroleum jelly (in fact, up to 96% petroleum jelly). They are basically glorified - and sometimes expensive - tubes of petroleum jelly! Petroleum jelly is not a desirable ingredient because:

  1. It's a by-product of oil refining and therefore not a sustainable resource.
  2. Prior to refining, some of the components of petroleum are considered to be carcinogenic. There are different grades of petroleum jelly, some of which are admittedly highly refined and 'triple purified'. But how do you know if all of the toxins have been removed from the one you're using?
  3. Being non water-soluble, petroleum jelly very effectively creates a barrier that seals in moisture. This may seem like a good idea, but that water-repellent barrier also keeps out air, so your skin can't breathe. It's like suffocating your skin.
  4. While you may think petroleum jelly would be soothing for skin conditions like eczema, rosacea and acne, it can actually aggravate those conditions..
